International venue for visiting artists and musicians

We have won the prestigious assignment of designing acoustics for the transformation of the enormous gas holder 2 at Värtan into a setting for visits by international artists. The commission presents us with a major challenge, the task being to achieve first class variable acoustics inside this vast space with its very distinctive geometry. The venue is expected to be completed by 2018.

Architects: Kvarnströms arkitektkontor, Arkitekturkompaniet, Göteborg. Client: Fastighetskontoret, Stockholm.

Kungliga Musikhögskolan, Stockholm

We are responsible for planning the room acoustics for the main auditoriums at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm, a building under construction. The building is to include a concert hall for a full-sized orchestra, a chamber music hall, a venue for rhythmic music, a “black box” and a choral hall with an organ installed. All the spaces have been designed for acoustic flexibility. The project is to be completed by the summer of 2016.

Architect: AIX, Stockholm. Client: Kungliga Musikhögskolan and Akademiska Hus.

Malmö LIVE

One of our most ambitious and prestigious projects is that of planning the acoustics for the new concert hall in Malmö. The assignment is the outcome of a contest that we won together with Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Skanska. The project, known as Malmö LIVE, includes – besides the concert hall itself – a convention centre and a large hotel for Choice. The concert hall will be the venue for the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, with practice and rehearsal rooms along with a flexible hall and a recording studio. The main hall seats more than 1600 people. The project is to be ready by 2015.

Client: Skanska Sverige AB.

Värnamo Gummifabrik

For the Värnamo Gummifabrik, we have designed acoustics and audiovisual techniques for the radical conversion of the factory into an arts centre, housing a multi-purpose auditorium, a “LIVE” hall, library etcetera. The first completed stage of reconstruction also includes university facilities as lecture halls and study rooms. The undertaking is a challenge both for the architects and us in preserving the genuine qualities of this industrial setting.
